アイルランド出身で、20世紀最も重要な作家のひとりに数えられるジェイムズ・ジョイス（1882-1941）。彼の詩集『室内楽（Chamber Music）』に音楽を付けて歌うという世界初の試みが、ユニバーシティ・カレッジ・ダブリン合唱団によって行われました。
小説家の他にテノール歌手であったジェイムズ・ジョイスにとって、自分の詩に多くの現代作曲家によって音楽を付けられたことは喜ばしいことでしょう。また、この企画に参加したユニバーシティ・カレッジ・ダブリン合唱団の芸術監督であるデズモンド・アーリーは、この録音ができたことを「光栄で、私たちにとっても喜ばしいことです」と語っています。
